In today’s modern world, sleep is often overlooked. But getting enough quality sleep is important as it helps to protect our mental and physical health. During sleep, our bodies work towards supporting healthy brain function and development; and lack of sleep can indeed affect how our body reacts, works, learns and thinks when we’re awake.
We recently spoke to one of our members on the Sleep Matters community – a newly established community on HealthUnlocked created to support people living with sleep disorders, as well as people who are battling with maintaining quality sleep as a result of pre-existing chronic conditions.
Max has been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation, a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate. In his video, Max explains that after months of poor quality sleep, he posted his symptoms in the Sleep Matters community, where another member suggested he should get checked out for sleep apnea. This was the penny drop moment for Max, as he then went to his doctor, booked into a sleep clinic where a comprehensive sleep test was done and sleep apnea was then confirmed. Knowing about his condition has enabled him to treat it accordingly and ultimately improve his quality of sleep and life. Watch more of Max’s story in his video below.
Do you have your own health story to share? Could you do your own short video and tell us more? Whether your video explains what living with an illness or disease is really like, how you overcame adversity, a story about how you learnt to live with a diagnosis or condition, or even how connecting with other people with your condition in HealthUnlocked has helped you, we want to hear from you.
You can email your video to communications@HealthUnlocked.com or share with us on social media, using the hashtag #UnlockYourHealth.
